Bringing renewable energy to the Village
Swaffham Prior’s Heat Network is breaking ground this summer!!
Resident’s in the village now have the opportunity for a pre-construction survey of their home available, to plan their potential connection the our rural heat network.
The village’s 100% renewable heat network, reliant on air source and ground source heat pumps, with electric boiler back-up, has been under development since 2017. In 2020, it achieved planning permission, and has since been awarded grant funding to bring the project to fruition.
Swaffham Prior Community Land Trust and Cambridgeshire County Council have been working together to offer this green heating alternative to oil, on which the village is currently dependant. The Heating Swaffham Prior project had two core aims, get off oil, and tackle fuel poverty. Swaffham Prior is a step ahead, of plans to remove oil and gas boilers in the UK, setting the future standard for 10,000 homes in Cambridgeshire that are also reliant on oil.
